The weekend

I played softball Friday night. Here it is Sunday and I can hardly move. It wasn't bad yesterday, but today my legs are killing me. I really need to start running again.

I did a little riding this weekend.

About 30 miles in one trip on Saturday. I stopped by my uncle Bob's place to show off the bike to him. He is the only other member of my family that rides. And I don't see him that often. He liked it. We only hung out for 15 minutes or so. My cousin Ryan had a soccer tournament to go to and they needed to get rolling. My helmet did manage to fall off the handle bars while I was there. I was pissed. Hopefully there is no hidden damage because I can't really afford a new one. Then I rode over to the westside last night to go bar hopping with my brothers Dan and Fred and his wife Kristine. It was fun. Just hanging out in bars and drinking beer. Dan and Fred bought all night long because they said they were taking me out for my birthday.

Well off to take Riley to a birthday party and then Darcy and I are gonna get coffee.

On a roll

Three days in a row. w00t!

So over the weekend, with my new ride, I put on about 300 miles. It was nice riding. Along route 50 on the Ohio River for awhile, then out into Indiana. A member of the Total Motorcycle forums is riding from Philly to San Diego. He stay with some of my riding friends, that I also met on the same site, up in Yellow Springs, Ohio. Another of our riding friends came down from Marysville, Ohio. After a Friday night of paryting, and a late Saturday start, we rode west with him for awhile. Scan and I had to turn back in Versailles, Ind due to time constraints, while Holiday and Zootech rode on to St. Louis.

Well I decided to stop and see my grandparents since we where in their neck of the woods. When we got to their farm, I had a message from Darcy on the cell phone saying she called into work and that I could take my time now. Nice. So we ate lunch with my grandparents and hung out a bit. My brother Fred and his wife Kristine showed up. So we bullshitted with them a bit too. When we rolled out we took route 48 to route 101 to route 46 back to Ohio and then Harrison Ave all the way into Cincinnati. Nice riding there for sure. Lots of bugs met their doom on our bikes and faceshields. I got in a wee bit of trouble with Darcy for not returning her call to let her know that we were going to take our time. She was still expecting us a 3 and Scan and I rolled in to my driveway about 5:30. After that Scan rode up to the Gaslight Bar and Grill and got some grub while Darcy, me and the kids went to the pool for Riley's end of season party and awards for swimteam. Riley was very jazzed that she got a trophy; her first. Lots of good food too.

After that we met back up with Scan at our house, put the kids to bed and ended partying and watching MotoGP all night followed by Hell's Angels on Wheels. Jack Nicholsons acting sure improved over the course of his career. Thats for sure. Scan rolled home to Yellow Springs sunday morning and I mowed the grass after we got some lunch.

All said and done, I put about 270 some miles on the bike from it having 0 when I picked it up Friday night to getting home Saturday evening. Not bad. Still a few hundred miles to go to finish the break in period. I can't wait. I want to ride it normally instead of like mad to get it broke in.

Update

I've added a links section now and a Atom site feed.

Wow. 2 days in a row.

Maybe I'm starting a trend. Am I going to update this thing on a semi-regular basis? I guess time will tell.

Anywho. As I stated in my previous post, I've recently turned 36. Well, my wonderful wife and children bought me a new motorcycle jacket for my birthday. It is nice. Mesh with armor in all the right spots. It is much more comfy than my leather jacket for riding in the summer. I love my leather jacket but man, when it is hot out, like it has been with temps in the mid 90's and 80% humidity, that thing can be stifling. The mesh though is cool, it is still warm when stopped, but it is cooler when riding. The leather is vented so I can open it, and I always have it zipped down at the top some but it still isn't quite as cool as the mesh.

Now, to the other present I got. I guess it really wasn't intended to be a present, but it just happen to come to fruition around my birthday. Anyway, I walked into a local stealership on my lunch hour to get a new pair of riding gloves. And there it was, sitting right next to the door when I walked in. A brand new silver '06 Kawasaki Vulcan 900 Classic. One of the 2 bikes that I had on my list of new bikes to get. And it was silver! The color I wanted. I had only seen black ones in stealerships before. I went back to work after deciding to go back over there when I got off. A little research proved that Kawasaki was offering the best financing around. So that evening, and a credit app later, I was the owner of that silver Vulcan 900 Classic. Man that thing is a beaut. So much nicer than my old 1982 Suzuki. Smoother, corners better, has a lot of giddy-up.

Well that is all for now. I'll leave you with a picture.

It's been awhile

Wow. Over a year since my last post. I guess I should really endeavor to update this thing more often. So much has happened in the last year. My daughter has finished first grade, my wife has (finally) graduated college and is now a RN. My son is becoming quite the athlete. He can ride his skateboard and scooter pretty well for a 4 year old. He can throw a baseball pretty far and accurate. His football and basketball tosses need work. Or we need to get smaller footballs and basketballs for him. I've had a birthday just pass. 36 years old now. I used to never be able to envision myself having a career or family or a life past 30. I always thought that the rock and roll lifestyle of my teens and twenties would make me not of this world before 30. Obviously it has not. I have a career and a family. Now I still can't imagine what life will be like in my 40's or 50's but I have an image of that now. That is all for now. I have a lot to say but that will be for future posts.
